Huddling close and hitting each other’s helmets, the Plant team congratulates each other for another win this season. The hockey team beat Palm Harbor in the Clearwater Ice Arena.

The hockey game on Friday, Jan. 22 took the time to celebrate the small but strong group of seniors who have been a part of the Plant hockey team since the beginning.

The announcer called each senior up, announcing which college each will be going to. The team hit their sticks on the ice, congratulating each senior as their names were called.

“I’m going to miss the people,” senior captain Taylor Mathews said. “I’ve made a lot of good friends along the way and it’s going to feel weird playing without them next year.”

Each senior’s photo, number, and jerseys were hung on the glass in the arena, and each were presented with flowers by their parents.

“I thought it was pretty cool,” senior alternate captain Sam Darche said.  It’ll be a good memory for my two years playing for Plant.”

The Plant hockey team made it into the playoffs after a strong season, but unfortunately lost to Palm Harbor on Friday, Jan. 29.

“I feel sad about leaving the team,” Mathews said. But I’m happy with the skill that we have this year and I’m happy to have a good team able to go into playoffs for my last year.”
