The United Coast Sunway’s 5K on the runway event is returning to Tampa International Airport.
The race, which is 3.10 miles long, takes place right on the runway where planes take off and land each day. The 5K is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 2. To enter the race as a runner, everyone must pay a registration fee. Early registration costs $35, which comes with your ticket for entry and a T-shirt. The regular registration fee is $40.
The airport and United Coast Sunway have hosted the event before and have been successful. Around two thousand runners take part in each year’s event. One runner, Blanca, flew across the country just for the event. She explained her experience in a testimonial on the Tampa International Airport website.
“I came all the way from SFO to run and I was not disappointed,” Blanca said. “I run a lot of races, and this was one of the most well organized and put together I have ever done.”
The race welcomes all runners, no matter their level. Whether you are a beginner or a pro-cross-country runner, this 5K is for every skill level.
Sophomore Luka Vaicekauskaite, who runs for Plant High School’s cross-country and track and field teams, has experience of preparation for races.
“For first-time runners, I would just think to maintain proper hydration and to eat a balanced dinner beforehand,” Vaicekauskaite said. “I also think that you should pace yourself and to not go out too fast, so you don’t run out of energy.”
