Johnny Bush was officially approved as the new principal of Plant by the Hillsborough Country School Board at the HCPS Instructional Service building on Tuesday, July 18.

Bush was chosen through a selective process involving interviews and teams of community leaders to find the best candidate. “Mr. Bush was absolutely a fabulous choice, and I think all of Plant High School’s going to be very happy with [him.],” said Sally Harris, a school board member for District 2.

“I feel great and very optimistic- I just want to get there and start being a part of it,” said the former Principal of Robinson on joining Plant. Full of eagerness, Bush hopes students will find him approachable and transparent, as he plans to be a prominent figure around the school. “I love to get out and be in the hallways and the classrooms. I’m also very visible in the community; we get involved in a lot of things that happen here,” said Bush.

Given that there’s not much time until school left, Bush doesn’t have any major changes in mind to bring to Plant. “Coming in on such short notice, you’ve got to go in with the attitude that you don’t fix what isn’t broken. There are a lot of good things happening there. I just need to find out where I need to fit in,” said Bush.
