New Show on Netflix: Wednesday
Released on Nov. 23, the first season of Wednesday was released on Netflix. Based on the original “Addams Family,” the new show broke Netflix streaming records in a matter of mere days. The show took the number one sport on Netflix with 341.23 million hours viewed by 50 million households.
The show follows a teenage girl who is seen as an outcast and is sent to the renowned “Nevermore Academy.” While the main character, Wednesday, daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams, solves the multiple murders happening around Jericho, Vermont.
Tim Burton’s creative spin on the traditional story includes all the original characters, from Uncle Fester to Thing. This narrative differs from the original, in which Morticia and Wednesday share psychic abilities.
Many students and faculty at Plant High School are fans as well.
“I think Wednesday is such a popular show on Netflix because she’s not like normal people. Her character is super engaging with the audience, showing a different perspective on life. Also, because she doesn’t blink- it’s crazy,” sophomore Hannah Worsham said.
Including eight episodes in the first season, the cast features Jenna Ortega and many other familiar faces, such as Christina Ricci. Wednesday is Burton’s first television show released since “Faerie Tale Theater” nearly 40 years ago.
