The United States soccer team will walk onto the world’s biggest stage as they take on their greatest rival in the recent world cups, Ghana. While Ghana might seem like an easy match they have knocked us out of the past two world cups and with the possibility of dropping us out of it again the game is sure to produce drama. It’s possible that the U.S got the hardest group out of all of the countries since they play against established superpowers Germany and a Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal along Ghana. Soccer has been on the upswing as of late in America, but Brazil won’t be a success for them as they most likely won’t make it out of the so called group of death.

With the odds stacked against them it seems like a wasted experience but, they have the chance to make strides to establish ourselves as a respectful program. The men’s soccer team is seen as an embarrassment as they live in the shadow of the far more successful women’s team. Now the likelihood of the United States doing much of anything is slim but, by beating Ghana on the 16th of June is a good way to start to a respectful campaign.

The goal of this World Cup is to not be blown out easily. They won’t get out of the group with Germany finishing third in the past two world cups as they show a mechanical efficiency that breeds success. Portugal is a good team but they have weaknesses without Ronaldo, they wouldn’t be in the world cup as they only booked their ticket via a two game playoff versus Sweden in which Portugal won 4-2 and Ronaldo scored all the goals. Without Ronaldo the US can win but the dominant Portuguese winger isn’t stopped easily in search of a world cup to cement his place in soccer lore.

While Ghana has been a thorn in our side for the past two world cups they’ve never been weaker with multiple players choosing to have a poor year so vengeance might be ours. Our fans believe in our chances to impress with 66 thousand tickets going to our fans, which is more than anyone else by 40 thousand, minus brazil who automatically got 70% of the tickets. Our chances might not be great but there is a chance that they can establish a respectful image for the program for when the odds better suit them.
