Plant stuns Armwood
Plant and Armwood faced off Friday night at 7 p.m. at Dad’s Stadium. In anticipation of a sell-out, tickets were sold at open house and since then, during lunch. Students, faculty, and players anxiously await the next installment of a growing rivalry. In 2012, the Plant vs Armwood game went into overtime, and the Panthers clinched a victory with a field goal.
When asked how the team has prepared for the upcoming season, junior Cameron Calderon said, “By putting in the work that was needed from the beginning of workouts back in January up to game week in August.” Cameron, number 62, plays Center.
“The hard work is one thing, but working as a team and being together is half the battle. As coach (Robert Weiner) says, if we put in all the hard work in the off season and be different…together, the football will just fall into place.” The teams’s motto “Be different…together.” is a mantra that can be applied to Plant High school as a whole.
The newly established student section the “Gold Rush” will do more than make an impression on the seasons opening night. “The crowd yelling plant, plant, plant gives us the juice play after play.” Calderon said.
“Im excited to listen to the drum line, and see Plant win their first home game,” junior Lauren Hirsch said.
