Volleyball senior spotlight
The Plant volleyball season has officially started, and so far, it has been going well for them, having their first game on 24 August and starting the season with a win over Berkeley. This year’s varsity team is being led by eight seniors being one of the largest numbers of seniors yet. All these seniors are hoping for a successful last high school season without COVID-19 affecting it.
“I think this season we will be really successful! We have a consistently amazing program with lots of great talent and passion,” senior Lily Frierson said. “I genuinely think we can win states.”
To add to the excitement, there is also a new head coach for the team. Coach Sarah Reiss previously attended Plant high school, being a former state champion. This year’s senior roster consists of Macy Cassidy (12), Jordan Moore (12), Lily Frierson (12), Abby Larkin (12), Sterling Oneal (12), Reese Friar (12), Sophia Kotsovolos (12), and Mackenzie Nicholes (12). This year is Moore’s first season on the team, and so far, she has made a significant impact being one of the starting right sides and points lots of points on the board for Plant.
“I have met a ton of fun girls and love the environment while playing with them,” Moore said. “I think our team is super close! We have a really big team this year, but we all have a lot of respect for one another. I think all of us try to bring out the best in each other, and we all work hard in practice to make each other better.”
Reiss has stepped into the role of being the new plant volleyball head coach. Reiss, a Plant alum, is determined to better her team to make a run for states. Reiss has made many beneficial impacts and is continuing to improve the team’s volleyball talents and strengthen the team’s bond.
“Coach Sarah is a really great coach. She has already taught us a lot of new stuff, and she’s brought in a really positive mindset,” Frierson said. “Her core values are super admirable as well, and I think under her, we can be super successful.”
