Tampa’s best tacos

Megan O'Flanagan

These delicious tacos are from Muchachas. They are the perfect dinner choice for a night out with friends or if you’re just looking for a tasty meal.

After trying a variety of takeout and dine-in Mexican restaurants, it became apparent which spots had the best tacos. The following three are my personal favorite places for tacos in the South Tampa area. As a taco enthusiast, I believe I have composed the most accurate and delicious list possible.

Muchachas

When I was browsing the various restaurants at Armature Works and saw someone carrying a tray of food out of Muchachas, I instantly recognized the tacos from a viral TikTok. I decided to see if they were worth the hype and ordered the Quesa Tacos. When I tell you these were the best tacos I’ve ever eaten, I mean it. The three beef, Monterey Jack cheese, onion, and cilantro tacos topped with beef consome, lime, cha-cha rojo, and cha-cha Verde were nothing short of absolutely perfection. The flavors and seasoning blended together amazingly, and the crispy corn tortilla brought everything together. Not to mention you can get these heavenly tacos for only $13. Truly an incredible meal and experience.

Bar Taco

Bar Taco is probably the most popular and well-known on this list, but it’s definitely not overrated. Every time I go there, I order four glazed pork belly tacos. If I’m in the mood to branch out, I’ll order the sesame rib-eye tacos. These are my personal favorites because it’s a normal amount of food that is not too dry compared to many other taco places. The meat always seems to be cooked to perfection- in these specific tacos- and the sauces and veggies taste fresh and flavorful. Aside from the food, the atmosphere in the restaurant is very lively end enjoyable, and it’s located around lots of other shops and businesses.

Taco Dirty

Over the summer, when I was bored and hungry, I discovered taco dirty is the perfect place if you’re looking for a new meal experience or easy takeout food. Similar to Chipotle or Moes, you design your own taco. My favorite combo is the grilled corn tortilla filled with citrus chipotle chicken, guacamole, house salsa, lime jalapeño sour cream, corn salad, warm queso, shredded lettuce, onion, and cilantro. These ingredients seem to blend perfectly and create an authentic flavor — definitely a good place for quick and delicious food.
