This pumpkin sits in a yard near Plant. Many put up Halloween decorations like this to get in the fall spirit.

With the cooler weather and abundance of Halloween decorations around the area, it’s apparent fall is upon us. Now is the perfect time to find fun activities to do with friends and family to get in the fall spirit.

Festivals and Events

Fall festivals can be an excellent idea for family-friendly weekend plans. Various theme parks like Busch Gardens and Disney World host themed festivities, including food and drink tasting, live music, etc. There are also family-run farms, such as DK Landscaping, that have their own fairs. Their farm festival contains crafts, music, a pumpkin patch, scenic hayrides, pony rides, fresh eggs, food vendors, a corn pit, pumpkin launchers, animal exhibits, plant shows, yard games, bounce houses, fresh lemonade, and a barrel train ride. There are other family-owned events like Harvest Holler and Fox Squirrel corn mazes with similar attractions.

Haunted Houses

For people looking for an adrenaline rush and spooky Halloween activity, Haunted houses are just the thing. The most popular among plant students, Howl-O-Scream, is held at Busch Gardens, involving a variety of scares zones, rides, and houses. Universal hosts Halloween Horror Nights, with themed haunted houses throughout the theme park. According to reviews, Scream-A-Geddon and Murder House are supposed to be the most terrifying, and it’s suggested not to bring small children or anyone who scares easily. If you are up for a thrilling night, Haunted Houses could be your new favorite fall fun.

Corn mazes and Pumpkin Patches

By far the most classic and popular of this list are pumpkin patches and corn mazes. Pumpkin patches can be found almost everywhere around the area, in places like Hyde Park, Raprager Farm, Fruitville Grove, and more. Many of these, including Harvest Holler Farm, Southern Hill Farm, Sweetfield Farm, and Fox Squirrel Maze, have corn mazes along with their patches. These are the perfect opportunities to find pumpkins for carving and explore new places with your family and friends.
