Harry Styles wins VMA for Album of the Year
On Sunday, Aug. 28, the MTV Video Music Awards returned to Newark, New Jersey. Many singers and songwriters came together to recognize and celebrate the best songs and artists of the year. Singers of all genres performed for the live audience, as well as the thousands of viewers who watched from home on their televisions or computers.
Each year, people vote online for their favorite artists, as the award winners are determined by fan votes. The award for album of the year had five nominees: Billie Eilish, Drake, Bad Bunny, Adele, and Harry Styles. Fans chose Harry Styles and his new album “Harry’s House.” He accepted his award through a video since he is currently on a residency tour.
The album came out on May 20 and has been nothing but successful. Since the original release, Styles has released music videos for two of the tracks, As It Was and Late Night Talking. The video for As It Was has close to 300 million views on YouTube. On Spotify, the album has 2.4 billion streams.
Sophomore Bella Villa has been a fan of Styles since before his solo career took off and hopes to see him on tour soon. “My favorite part of the album is probably how different each song is and there is a song for really everyone on the album,” Villa said. “You can really be in any mood and listen to the album since they’re all so good.”
