Football season is coming to a close, with the Panthers final regular season game this Friday vs. the Alonso Ravens. This game will determine whether or not Plant will win their district, for the first time since 2018. Will you be attending to cheer on our Plant Panthers?

Football regular season is coming to a close, this Friday October 28th, as the Plant Panthers take on the Alonso Ravens at Alonso. The Panthers current record is 7-2 overall, and 2-0 for district games. Current player, Owen Owens (23) is proud of his teams’ accomplishments this year and is excited for the upcoming game against the Ravens.

“I think we have had an amazing season so far. We have beat some good teams and proved that we have rebuilt a successful program,” Owens says.

Owens is a defensive end, with 23 solo tackles and 33 assists in tackles for his football career at Plant. This season for the Panthers has held the highest winning record since Owens arrived at Plant in 2019. Under the leadership of head coach Hank Brown, the Panthers have dramatically changed their statistics from earlier seasons.

“I think we are going to win Friday and I can’t wait to see what the future brings with the playoffs approaching,” Owens comments.

Owens, as well as other teammates are excited, not only Friday’s game, but district playoffs. The Panthers will be the number one seed for the playoffs, which would be their first time since 2018, should they take the win against the Ravens this Friday. Fellow player, Rodes Robinson (23), is also proud of how far the Panthers have come from previous records.

“I think we’ve had a successful season thus far because of all the dedication our players have had and because we’re DOGS. I think we will have a great game on Friday against Alonso and will finish the regular season with a dub,” Robinson says.

Along with the coaching strategies of Coach Brown, Robinson attributes lots of their wins to the student-athletes hard work and effort. Student and parent fans alike have been anxious for a season such as this, and many are ready to help cheer on the panthers at this week’s game.
