How Did Fashion Trends Become so Popular?

Old-fashion trends have suddenly started coming back; let’s find out why this is and where it originated. Oversized shirts were a trend in the ‘80s, and now the trend has come back. It coincided with men wanting to be seen as super muscular. Broad shoulder suits reinforced the muscular-esque body shape that was the public ideal. The clothes were designed to look strong. The fitness industry has grown drastically in the past decade; the new oversized clothes signal the repetition of this body-conscious cycle.

You’d think people want to buy cheaper clothes, which is why we have thrift stores, but instead, people now like quality things that are much more expensive, like lululemon. lululemon is a company obsessed with innovation. Their leggings have been engineered for maximum performance. The technological advances lululemon has made in clothing make it harder for competitors to emulate its success. Even Nike, with all its design prowess, hasn’t been able to take on lululemon in its backyard successfully. While brands like Nike and Adidas have built their brands through big-name endorsements, think Serena Williams or Michael Jordan for Nike, lululemon has primarily marketed its brand via word of mouth. It does this through its free events and relationships with brand ambassadors, which is how lululemon became so popular.

One thing that has never gone out of style is converse. Founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills Converse in Malden, Massachusetts, the converse rubber shoe company started as a specialist in winterized rubber-soled shoes and boots. Within a few years, the firm had branched into the athletic footwear market. Converse’s golden era spanned the ‘40s and ‘60s when it became the most popular sneaker for any athletic activity. At its peak, the band is said to have controlled 80% of the US sneaker market. But it wasn’t until the ‘60s that colored versions of Chuck Taylor hit the market in response to demand from basketball teams keen to match the shoes to their uniform.

As the all-time bestselling basketball shoe, there was a drastic change in converse when they made the Chuck Taylor All-Star. By the late ‘70s, brands like Nike and Puma came onto the market with basketball shoes. People started wearing converse, even when they were not playing sports, and celebrities started wearing them, which made many people want to buy them and that is why converse are still worn.
