2023 Grammy’s Recap
On Feb. 5, the 65th Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles CA to celebrate and honor another year of successful musicians and their work. Each year, thousands of musical artists as well as fans and other celebrities, come together to hear performances and give awards to some of the most recognized musicians of current times. This year, the Recording Academy welcomed these groups to gather at the Crypto.com Arena for the renowned night.
The awards had a large and eclectic variety of performances including shows from Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, Sam Smith, Brandi Carlile, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and more. These performances showcased the different genres, leaving each music taste satisfied.
As previously stated, there are numerous awards given out throughout the ceremony; however, there are some that catch the audience’s eyes more than others. Awards like Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Vocal Album, Best Duo Performance, and Best Pop Solo Performance are some of the most recognized awards by audience members.
Harry Styles was awarded both album of the year and best pop vocal performance for his album ‘Harry’s House’ which came out in May of 2022. The Song of the Year award was given to Bonnie Raitt’s ‘Just like that,’ which beat many prestigious artists and their tracks. Adele’s ‘Easy on Me,’ which was released in late 2021, received the Best Pop Solo Performance award. When receiving her trophy, she dedicated the award to her son and thanked him for everything he had done for her. The Best Duo Performance award made history, as it was given to Kim Petras, the first transgender woman to win the award. She won the Grammy alongside Sam Smith, who wrote the hit ‘unholy’ with her.
Although specific dates, locations, and performers are undecided for next year’s Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy will begin planning the 2024 awards soon.
