Service Hour Opportunities
Need help finding hours to put on your resume or for bright futures? Here are some things you can do to earn those hours; whether it’s helping animals, cleaning gardens, or making crafts is up to you.
Animal- Related volunteer opportunities
- SPCA Tampa- They provide care, shelter, and permanent homes for homeless or injured animals. You can volunteer for cleaning, dog walking, cat cuddling, pocket pet photography, and food bank, volunteer. Located in Pinellas County with three hours twice a week required.
- Humane Society Tampa Bay- Provide shelter for homeless and at-risk animals. Volunteers can help take care of animals through grooming and bathing, housing care, animal enrichment activities, and community engagement. Located in Tampa and has a teen program (for ages 12 to 15) with 20 hours required; teens 16 and older may volunteer once or for less than six months.
Homelessness and food insecurity
- Metropolitan Ministries- Help homeless and at-risk individuals and families by providing food, housing, education, and job search assistance. Teens can volunteer throughout the year or participate in their Teen Summer Internship program. Volunteers can help sort donations, distribute food and assist with community events. Located in Hillsborough County, Pasco County, and Pinellas County. Summer teen internships require 16-20 hours per week for one month.
- Feeding Tampa Bay- Provide food to families all over Tampa Bay. You can volunteer to sort donations, distribute groceries to neighbors, or serve warm food to those in need. Located in the Tampa Bay area, teens can participate throughout the year by visiting the Feeding Tampa Bay calendar, or teens can sign up to become a Student Ambassador, and they are required to attend a minimum of three volunteer events (and post about Feeding Tampa Bay ten times on social media).
Health-related volunteer opportunities
- Moffitt Cancer Center- Care for cancer patients and lead the research for prevention and cure of cancer. Teens can volunteer to care for cancer patients. Located in Tampa, Teens can participate in the Summer Teen Program- To be eligible to apply; students must have completed their first year of high school and be 15-18 years of age.
