Volunteering is only for some, but the girls in Anchor Club love to participate in the Tampa Bay community. On Sunday, Oct. 22, from five to seven p.m., Plant’s Anchor Service Club participated in First Presbyterian Church’s annual Trunk or Treat, decorating two cars and handing candy to kids. The event was Anchor’s first out-of-school service activity this year, and 18 girls came to volunteer.
The Trunk or Treat consists of decorating car trunks uniquely and passing out various candies to kids in their Halloween costumes.
One of the trunks was decorated with an inflatable field goal that kids could kick an inflatable football through. Another trunk had chickens decorated as a farm. Some were Taylor Swift-themed, and one was even princess-themed.
Anchor members passed out candy to all the dressed-up kids who came to support their church. The costumes worn varied from an ice cream truck to a traffic light.
Event Coordinator Bella Johnson (11) participated in the event. “I thought the Trunk or Treat event was a good way for anchor members and anchor board to hang out and get stuff done. It was a great opportunity for the service club, and I hope we do it again next year,” Johnson stated in an interview.
The 2023-2024 school year is Bella’s second year in the club and her first year on the club’s board.
Service opportunities will come and go as the year goes on, and Anchor Club seems very serious about its volunteering goals this school year.
