“Wonka,” the new family-friendly musical, was released on Dec. 15 and consisted of catchy songs, witty characters, and lots of chocolate. Keep reading to learn more.

“Wonka,” starring Timothee Chalamet, is a new movie that hit theaters on Dec. 15. Overall, the film was full of imagination and made me feel like a little kid again. The movie was creative and had interesting characters that viewers learned to love.

Walking into the movie, I did not realize it would be full of singing and dancing. Some songs were rather catchy, but others were placed awkwardly into a scene. In the movie’s first scene, Chalamet dazzles the audience with his excellent dancing skills. It was great to see Chalamet take on playing a character that is very different from the ones he has played in the past; it shows his range as an actor.

The movie was about Willy Wonka trying to open his dream chocolate shop, which he promised his mother he would do before she passed away. Wonka has a gift of making magical chocolate and wishes to share it with the world, but disaster strikes as he becomes severely in debt to a couple who scammed him in an elaborate contract Wonka signed. With the help of fellow people in debt, he works his way into the world by selling his chocolate and escaping near-death experiences from the Chocolate Cartel (three powerful men in the chocolate business).

The only aspect of the movie I would critique is the weirdness of some scenes. For example, when Wonka needs more ingredients to make the chocolate, he breaks into the zoo and milks a giraffe. Although I thought of this as peculiar, the whole idea of Wonka is his odd and unique nature, so it only makes sense that the movie would have some quirks, too.

Although I recommend watching this movie, I do not see myself watching it again. This movie is not a rewatch to me, but I am glad I saw it once. “Wonka” was family-friendly and lighthearted but included some moments that pulled on your heartstrings.
