On Feb. 4, 2024, comedian Trevor Noah hosted the 66th annual Grammy Awards. The night began at 8 p.m. as celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams walked down the red carpet in their custom designer outfits.
The awards began with a performance by Dua Lipa of her two new songs “Houdini” and “Training Season.” Famed country singer Luke Combs then took the stage with American singer-songwriter Tracy Chapman, who made her first on stage appearance in almost 15 years. However, Chapman was not the only artist to make a comeback on this iconic night. Award winning rock musician Billy Joel took the Grammys as an opportunity to not only debut his new single “Turn the Lights Back On” but to also celebrate an 80s classic as he closed the Grammys with a performance of “You May Be Right.”
As the night went on many different artists were recognized for their hard work throughout the year, including Taylor Swift who won Album Of The Year for her 2023 release “Midnights.” Swift was nominated against many popular artists such as Lana Del Rey, who was nominated for her recent release “Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” and Olivia Rodrigo who was nominated for “GUTS.”
Another deserved win went to Billie Eilish for her song “What Was I Made For?”, which originally debuted in the popular motion picture “Barbie,” the song sparked interest among woman across the world pulling deep emotions out of all listeners. This made for an expected and deserved win for the artist and the song itself. Finally, the winner of the award for Best New Artist went to 34-year-old singer-songwriter Victoria Monet, who was recognized based off her 2023 album “Jaguar II.”
Overall, the Grammys were a memorable event, celebrating the amazing veteran and new artists of many generations.
