Summer is right around the corner, and everyone is trying to plan summer trips. Many people go to the same places every summer, and they are often crowded. Vacations are meant to be peaceful, so here are some relatively quiet places to travel.
Buenos Aires- With expensive flights and crowds expected in big cities like Paris, look south instead of Argentina. Buenos Aires offers history, culture, and food. The Argentine Capital is great for trying to escape the heat. Summer in Buenos Aires is around December to February, so temperatures in June, July, and August range from the high 40s to the low 60s.
Albania-Mykonos Greece was Airbnb’s top trending international destination for American travelers. For an alternative with crystal clear water and affordable prices, try Greece’s neighbor Albania. You’ll find Mediterranean beaches along the Albanian Riveria; inland, the mountains are for hiking and cycling, and you can check out ancient cities.
Costa Rica—This Central American destination has nearly 800 miles of coastline. While it topped lists for flight searches and bookings over the past few years, it’s missing from this year’s data, which should mean fewer people. Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, and waterfalls that make it an ideal destination for visitors.
Amelia Island- Florida is home to many gorgeous beaches. Specific destinations, particularly along the Florida Keys, attract many tourists yearly. Fortunately, hidden destinations like Amelia Island offer far more space to lay out your towel on the beach. For a $6 ferry ride, visitors can access over forty beaches, a state park, luxury resorts and even a golf course.
Bar Harbor, Maine- It can be hard to fully enjoy the rock cliffs and forests when there are many people, making Bar Harbor the perfect place to visit. Bar Harbor is far less crowded and offers incredible views and famous Maine lobster. Visitors can enjoy bus tours and many hiking trails. In Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay is perfect for boating, sailing, and fishing.
Molokai, Hawaii—Those hoping to enjoy the warm waters with less company can skip major islands and go to Molokai instead, a safe tourist island with lower visitation numbers. Sea cliffs along the northern shore create a beautiful view. These views can be enjoyed in Kalua Papa National Historical Park and Pala’ au State Park, where the wildlife will likely outnumber visitors on this least-visited Hawaiian Island.
