Benjamin Sheikhet has been a one of the newest additions to the staff and community at Plant High School. Although he is only in his seventh year of teaching, Sheikhet brings experience from both Newsome and Bloomingdale high schools.
Although he is new to Plant, students have only great things to say about Sheikhet and his love for education.
When asked why he came to Plant, Sheikhet said, “My own personal good experiences as a student here.”
Sheikhet is a graduate of the 2014 graduating class of Plant. Now, almost 10 years later, he is helping kids have the same good experiences that he had, creating a beautiful sense of continuity and shared history.
In addition to graduating from the best high school in Florida, Sheikhet has a social science degree and a bachelor’s degree. He has used this knowledge to teach many classes at Plant, including Florida History, World History, Holocaust History, Economics, and European History.
When asked what his favorite part of teaching at Plant was, Sheikhet said, “Gives another purpose to teaching, and I can make their experiences here as good as my experiences were.” Sheikhet states that he tries to strive to create a healthy and productive work environment for all his students every day.
Although Sheikhet is driven and focused on teaching, he is known for being fun and shares a love for Taylor Swift with his students. In his room hangs a banner of Swift, from her most recent tour, “The Eras Tour”.
Sheikhet, though new to administration side of Plant, has began to make his mark on Panthers in AP European History, as claimed by many students.
“He is very energetic and seems to love teaching at Plant because he is alumni,” senior, Mary Brendzel. “His energy just radiates in the class and makes me want to learn.”
