After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Lydia’s life completely changes when her mischievous teenage daughter, Astrid, finds the model of the town in the attic and accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife. With trouble in both realms, it won’t be long before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, and the troublesome demon returns to Winter River to cause mayhem.
The movie is set 36 years into the future, and Lydia Deetz hosts a supernatural chat show named Ghost House. Lydia has visions of Beetle Juice while filming part of the show. She then finds out about her father’s death, Charles, on the way to Winter River for a funeral service. After the funeral services, Rory proposes to Lydia, which causes Astrid to run to see Jeremy before the wedding.
Once Halloween arrives, Astrid finds out that Jeremy is a ghost and asks for Astrid’s help to restore his life. Lydia discovers Jeremy’s past, murdering his parents, and realizes Astrid is in danger. Lydia supposedly brings back Beetle Juice to get Astrid and bring her to safety. Lydia can only get Astrid back if Astrid agrees to marry Jeremey, so he will be able to transition into the real world and escape his ex-wife, who tries to hunt him down in the Afterlife. Astrid recites an incantation so she can switch places with Jeremy, allowing him to return to his regular life.
The ceremony is called off after Lydia and Astrid realize Beetle Juice violated his own contract and the rules of the handbook. Then Beetle Juice inflates like a balloon and explodes. Later, Lydia films the last part of her show so she can spend more time with Astrid. Lydia still has nightmares about Beetle Juice, and one dream is of Astrid having a child, which causes Lydia to wake up concerned.
