Tis the Season! Tampa offers various locations that will get you in the holiday spirit. Some popular places include Hyde Park, Curtis Hixon, Midtown, and Busch Gardens. Each area has its unique twist on a winter wonderland that people of all ages can enjoy.
After surveying 13 students, most voted their favorite winter spot to be Curtis Hixon’s Christmas village. Ella Reeves (10) mentioned, “I remember going to Curtis Hixon as a kid and loving it because there are so many things to do there. There’s ice skating, Christmas lights, and so much more.” Reeves plans to continue with the tradition of Curtis Hixon this year. The Winter Village is operating from Nov. 22 to Jan. 5 this year. All of the activities offered are ice skating, cafes, shops, ice skating shows, the Winter Village Express train, and silent disco Fridays.
Others love going to Hyde Park Village because every year, the vast Christmas tree gets put up in the center of the village. A tree lighting ceremony is held every year, and families gather around to watch Christmas come to life. Morgan Manley (10) explains, “Driving through Hyde Park to see the Christmas tree and all of the lights on the houses is one of my favorite winter activities.” According to the National Christmas Tree Association, the Hyde Park Christmas tree tradition started during the 1930s when Roosevelt began to grow Christmas trees on his estate in Hyde Park.
Lastly, Busch Gardens Christmas Town takes place from Nov. 15 to Jan.5. Busch Gardens provides Holiday shopping and dining, festive shows and entertainment, Samta’s North Pole experience, Rudolph’s Winter Wonderland, and the Holly Jolly Express train. Christmas Town is the park’s award-winning holiday event said to bring holidays to life.
