Working out more, drinking more water, and spending less time on phones – all New Year’s resolutions found worldwide.
New Year’s traditions are unique to the people who make them and what they want to accomplish in that year. Plants are no exception to this concept.
One of the most common resolutions, with 54 percent of students answering, was to improve their health. However, health may mean different things to different people.
Olive Guice said, “My resolution is to go to the gym more often” as opposed to Anna Frick’s, which was to “Go to bed earlier”.
Both resolutions have the same goal, and different avenues are used to reach their destination.
The second most popular category was to become an overall nicer person. Like the health goal, Plant students had the same purpose, with diverse ways of reaching it.
My goal is to become an overall nicer person and make sure everyone she is around feels included.”
On the other hand, Charlotte Morris said “My resolution is to connect with friends I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Hufnagle and Morris have diverse ways of accomplishing their goals, but both will result in the connection of friends and strangers.
Finally, the third most common resolution within Plant was school-related.
Sophia Guveria said, “I want to manage time and stress better so I can get my work done more effectively.” To make her resolution a reality, Guveria researched different time management techniques and studied them.
Unfortunately, New Year’s resolutions are often not followed through with. Hufnagle decided that after her last resolution fell through, the fact that she “wants to work on friendships and her mental health while having a healthy balance with both ” would make all the difference.
Likewise, Guice said, “Even though I had the same resolution last year, this year will be different because I’ve already started the positive habit of going early, so it will be an easier transition.”
New Year’s resolutions give Plant students and people around the world alike hope that the new year will have positive impacts on their lives. See you next year with new resolutions, Plant.
