On Thursday, Jan. 20, Plant High School’s chapter of the Beta Honor Society inducted a new class of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. During the inductions, 13 current members spoke to the inductees, and Beta sponsor Litwak arranged for one of Plant’s alumni to speak during the ceremony.
The inductees received certificates upon leaving the auditorium. Attached to the certificates were Beta membership cards for the inductees to keep as proof of their membership in the society.
With dozens of current Beta members volunteering, they provided a reception for the inductees and their guests, supplying cookies, beverages, and fruit.
Beta holds one induction each year at the beginning of the second semester due to the qualifications candidates must meet. All candidates must have a minimum 3.8 GPA and must complete at least three semesters of high school. These qualifications explain why the ceremony is held in the spring, allowing tenth graders who meet the requirements to be inducted.
At Plant, Beta’s board includes the Executive Board, Administration, Philanthropy, Communication, and Tutoring sectors.
On Jan. 30, the Beta Honor Society at Plant High School gained over 150 new members, including sophomore Julianna Margre.
“The most memorable part was the guest speaker. He was very relatable and inspiring to me,” Margre said.
“When I got the certificate, I felt like I was truly a part of the club. The ceremony and shaking the principal’s hand just tied it together for me. That’s when I knew I was a part of the Beta club,” she said.
Throughout the years, Plant has inducted over 1,000 students into the honor society, highlighting their achievements during their years at the school.
