KPop Demon Hunters is currently the most-watched title on Netflix.
KPop Demon Hunters has gained attention in just over two months since it was released on Netflix on June 20, 2025. With 236 million views, it has overtaken Red Notice, a 2021 action comedy with 230.9 million views, as the most viewed movie on Netflix. A sing-along theatrical release, the first of its kind from Netflix, was estimated to have grossed $17-18 million over the Aug. 22-24 weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie follows a band of demon hunters called Huntrix (stylized HUNTR/X), consisting of Rumi, the lead singer who has a secret; Mira, the choreographer; and Zoey, the lyricist. Their goal is to protect the “honmoon”, a barrier that protects humanity from the demon world. The group faces off against their rivals, the Saja Boys, a band of demons sent to destroy the honmoon by taking HUNTR/X /X’s fans.
The film quickly gained traction on social media sites like TikTok and Instagram reels. The music from the movie, including “Golden,” “Your Idol,” “Soda Pop,” and “How It’s Done,” has been on Billboard’s Top 100. The tracks stand at numbers 1, 4, 5, and 9, respectively, as of Sep. 6, 2025, according to billboard.com.
The movie’s reception has been attributed to a range of factors. Madison Kopp (12) stated, “I think it’s so popular because it takes back the idea of girl power, but it also keeps [in touch] with femininity. I feel like a lot of shows try to overreach with that sometimes.”
As Oliver Kirby (12) summarizes, “It appeals to [parents] who can look at it and go ‘I want my kid to think about herself this way, like she can be feminine, and she can also kick butt’.”
According to parents.com, many parents noted that the movie’s songs made it more enjoyable to watch with their children. Parents cited the “catchy choruses, key changes [and] solid bridges” of the songs as reasons why they enjoyed watching the movies with their children.
On the other hand, the movie’s charm may not affect everyone. One student (11) said, “I have not watched the motion picture titled ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ and don’t intend on doing so; I frankly find the entire concept ridiculous. The vocals are flat at best, and it sounds overproduced.”
In other news, Sony Animation and Netflix officially confirmed that a sequel will be coming, according to netflixfans.com. This movie will again follow HUNTR/X through new adventures. As more details are confirmed, fans have opinions on what they would like to see in the movie.
Sophie Girvenkova (12) said, “I want to see a continuation of Jinu’s story. I want either this to be about his backstory and how he came to be a demon, or by some miracle he did not die, and it’s about being his and Mira’s life after the battle.”
