Each school year brings a new class of students to Plant, and each of them always has many talented and outgoing kids. However, for the class of 2027 one of these students is Ella Reeves. Reeves is a junior at Plant and is known for her involvement in an ample number of clubs including her position as an editor for the school newspaper, service chair of the National Honor Society and secretary for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Additionally, Reeves is also a part of the Plant High School swim team, which she has been a part of since she was a freshman. When Reeves was asked what motivated her to start swimming for Plant, she said, “My mom used to swim, so that inspired me to start doing swimming as well.”
Extracurriculars aside, Reeves is also known for being outgoing in the classroom, as well as throughout her career as a student at Plant. She has taken many rigorous courses; one example is Mr. Thoreson’s AP Biology course, which she is currently enrolled in for her junior year.
“I love being able to see and hang out with my friends in my classes,” Reeves said.
One of Reeves’ friends, Sofia Ventura (11), was asked what makes Reeves special. “Even if Ella is having a bad day or is upset about something, she will still always be there for you,” said Ventura.
However, when Reeves is not doing schoolwork, swimming or at a club meeting, she says that her two favorite things to do are to “work out at Palma Ceia or I hang out with my best friend Anna Frick almost every day.”
Although Reeves is often described by people as very extroverted and sociable, this was not always the case. Before coming to Plant her freshman year, Reeves attended St Mary’s for middle school, which is a small private school. This big change of going from a small private school to a large public school with all new people would be a tough challenge for anyone.
When asked about how she felt about this change, Reeves said, “I went to St. Mary’s for 10 years, so I was ready for a change, but I only ever had friends from St. Mary’s and even though coming to Plant made me nervous, I think it eventually helped me come out of my shell which has made grow a lot as a person and helped me become more social.”
But what causes her to do all of this? What has inspired and motivated Reeves to work so hard in and out of the classroom?
“I do want to go to a good college and eventually end up successful, but it is also about living up to the high expectations of my parents that were set because of how well my older brother and sister did,” said Reeves.
Ella Reeves exemplifies hard work and determination, showing that balancing academics, athletics and leadership is possible with the right mindset. As she looks ahead to college, her journey at Plant High School continues to inspire her peers.
