Plant High School’s marching band won this year’s annual competition, marking its second win in five years. After weeks of rehearsals and preparation, their hard work paid off.
The competition featured marching bands from across the region, each bringing a prepared performance. Overall rankings were based on drill formations, musical precision and accuracy, with each band member having specific roles and instruments.
Despite the strong competition, Plant’s marching band was recognized for its energy, coordination and sound production. Judges also praised the band for its musical quality and consistent tempo throughout the performance.
Emory Featheringill, a junior, said, “I am in percussion and play the snare drum, and I love being a part of the marching band because of how close you get with people and all the friendships I have made. Being a part of the marching band means a lot of commitment, and there are only two competitions the entire year.”
Preparing for the competition required significant time and effort. Marching band demands dedication and discipline, and students committed themselves to both individual and group rehearsals. Beyond the music, each performance reflects months of preparation and teamwork. Through this process, students not only improve their musical skills but also build leadership, time management and the ability to perform under pressure.
“Being a part of the marching band is a lot of commitment, but it is very enjoyable, so I think it’s worth it,” Gabe Kastner, a junior, said. “We play every day in class in addition to three hours on Thursdays and anywhere from four to six hours on Fridays. My favorite part about being in the marching band is the people and the amazing community that is created. I think that this year, in comparison to others, to win first place, there was more movement and emphasis on the big hits of the show.”
Behind success lies a powerful sense of unity and community. For Plant’s marching band, the win represents more than just words—it is the result of trust and teamwork. Many students describe the marching band as their “second family,” with that close bond playing a key part in their strength.
In recent years, the marching band has grown not only in size and popularity but also in creativity and skill. This year’s performance showcased just how far they’ve come. After the win, members celebrated together, reflecting on the time, effort, and dedication that led to the moment. The achievement brought a sense of pride and excitement to students, staff and families alike.
The season isn’t over yet. The band will continue performing at football games and will soon compete again. Riding the momentum from this recent success, they’re setting new goals and working to build on their progress — bringing the same energy and focus into every performance ahead.
