‘1989 World Tour Live’ disappoints

Following her world tour, Taylor Swift has released her concert movie “the 1989 World Tour Live” exclusively to Apple Music. This long established, post-tour movie concept includes predictable content but great graphics and sound quality.

Swift wanted to do something different with her tour, so she invited surprise guests (actors, singers, models and sports players) to come out and perform a song with her during her concerts.

All the trailers released for the movie made it seem as though the movie was going to focus more on the guest appearances and other special things she did during her 1989 tour. Instead, the movie is basically just a taping of Swift’s concert in Sydney Australia. She sings all the songs from her 1989 album with choreographed dances.

Only about 15 minutes of the two hour and 11 minute movie was about all the guests Taylor Swift had preform during her tour. Each guest would be introduced and a 10 to 20 second recording of the performance was shown.

The movie was like watching a performance for two hours. For a diehard fan this is great, but for someone who doesn’t enjoy her music or someone who doesn’t really like her it would be hard to get through. Even as a fan of her music, I couldn’t sit through her movie after attending her concert. It just didn’t compare.

The “1989 World Tour Live” didn’t accurately represent Swift’s actual concert. The camera was always focused on her dancers and her, and very rarely shifted to the audience. This didn’t give the person watching a feel on what the concert atmosphere was really like. The crowd was rarely shown dancing and singing along to the music, and you couldn’t hear the screaming of thousands of people.

Swift’s movie did have some cool close up and slo-mo shots of her performing, angles that, no matter where you were in the audience, you never would have been able to see. These just made her performance seem even cooler. The movie also included great sound quality; Swift sounded exactly like she did on her album.

Overall “the 1989 World Tour” is a waste of time. It includes no real interesting content and will have viewers turning it off after Swift performs her third or fourth song, or even falling asleep. If this is the pick for a movie night, I would chose another film.
