Golden Globes kick-off awards show season
Controversially hosted by Ricky Gervais, The Golden Globes Award show this year brought comedic genius and a preface for the upcoming academy awards.
The returning go-to-host of the Globes, Gervais, started the show with a laugh, but also an after thought of “should I really laugh at this?” Starting with a dig at Caitlyn Jenner, starting a theme of questioning jokes continued throughout the night.
The big winner of the night was the movie, The Revenant, taking home the prestigious of awards of Best Director, Alejandro G Inarritu, and Best actor in a Motion Picture, which went to the star of the film, Leonardo DiCaprio.
DiCaprio’s win awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association could be the first step to receiving his long-awaited Oscar.
On the TV side of the award show, those who won left many viewers confused as many smaller TV series won. This included the series, “Mr. Robot” taking home Best Drama Series.
This Globes also featured many new coming actors, including Brie Larson, who took home Best Actress in a Motion picture for her work in the film “Room.”
Some dynamic duos also took the stage during the awards show. One pair was Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, with Hill posing as the bear from The Revenant, bringing the audience a laugh.
Also taking the stage was Hollywood best friends Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence, making fun of celebrity nicknames. Lawrence also beat out Schumer to win the award of Best Actress in a Comedy, for her work in the film, “Joy”.
The Golden Globes 2016 came with many surprises, but some expected things such as “Inside Out” winning Best Animated Picture. However, what has yet to come is if the results of this show will be in tune with those of the upcoming Academy Awards.
