Rowling Announces New Harry Potter Book
An announcement made yesterday, Feb. 10, elated Harry Potter fans around the world. J.K. Rowling, creator of the wildly successful seven book saga announced that a new book in the series would be released in July.
The U.K.-based author had already announced that the next installment of Potter’s epic story would be played out onstage this summer. The play, entitled “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is a two-part story intended to be seen in order on the same day or on two consecutive nights. Beginning in May, the play will run in a preview format, with tickets on sale to the public for showings starting in June. The world premier is scheduled for July 30 in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre.
The Harry Potter book and movie series have amassed a global following of devoted fans, many who are unable to make the trip to London. These fans expressed their concern, and were appeased on Wednesday. Rowling announced on her website, Pottermore, that a print and digital copy of the play’s script at the time of its rehearsal and preview will be available at midnight July 31. This Special Rehearsal Edition publication is to be later replaced with a Definitive Collector’s Edition.
Limited details of the play’s plot have been released as of late. The play is said to pick up where the epilogue of the seventh installment in the series left off; Harry, Ginny, Hermione and Ron see their children off at Platform 9 3/4 to begin their first year of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is now a father of three and working in the Ministry of Magic, the governing body of the magical world. Viewers will learn how Harry and his eldest son, Albus cope with their name and the past it holds.
The original new story was developed by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, and was written by Thorne.
