Goody Goody returns to Tampa
An old favorite is back. Goody Goody burger, which opened in Tampa in 1925 and closed in 2005, has opened a new location that is hopefully here to stay.
Located at 1601 W Swann Ave, Goody Goody is one of the locations recently added to Hyde Park Village. Due to the construction and congestion of the Village scene, parking in the Goody Goody parking lot is very limited. Similarly to Fresh Kitchen, the best chance of finding parking is on the street, or in the Village parking garages. Which creates a longer walk to and from the restaurant, but is completely worth it.
The menu has great variety, and serves everything from soft buttermilk pancakes to fresh salads with great portions. Breakfast is served all day, and lunch or dinner items are served 11a.m. to closing.
The chains staple, burgers, are brought out wrapped in paper on a plate full of fries. Although a little greasy, the burger was tender and juicy, making the customer savor each and every bite. It is understandable why the chain is called “Goody Goody” by the way the food tastes.
Since Goody Goody is located in a very popular area, it’s always very busy and very hard to get a table. The restaurant always seems to have a wait, even at off peak times. But the chain has recently started to use the “NoWait app”, which allows customers to put their name on the waiting list before getting to the restaurant.
Walking into the restaurant is a blast from the past, creating the feeling of being transported back to the 1920s when the original Goody Goody burger was established. The green and yellow accent colors create a theme that makes all the décor in the restaurant flow, while giving off the historical vide of the 1920s.
Since the original Goody Goody was a diner, the owners of this new and improved version of the chain were trying to create a diner feel, which they were successful at. The restaurant included booths and chairs with vibrant colors and cushions to make dining fun yet comfortable, unique lighting to bring the customer back to the 1920s, and a counter along the front of the interior to really finish off the diner look.
With great food and great ambiance it is incomprehensible as to why the original chain closed. Other then parking, Goody Goody is the perfect spot for any meal throughout the day.
