Jameis needs help
He can’t do it alone. Quarterback Jameis Winston can’t do everything by himself in order for the Buccaneers to win. After reviewing all of Winston’s turnovers, it is clear that not all of them are his fault.
Outside of his two interceptions against the Denver Broncos and one against Atlanta Falcons, all other turnovers where the fault of other players. For example, Winston was charged with a fumble against the Arizona Cardinals, but it wasn’t truly his fault, as the running back shoulder hit Winston’s arm as he was going to throw the ball. Another time, the Receiver couldn’t hold onto a pass as he was getting hit by a defender, which then caused the ball to be popped in the air where it was then intercepted.
Those two example where just some of the times where the turnover was charged against Winston despite it not being his fault.
Winston also needs to have a balanced offense, as he is throwing the ball way too much compared to how many times the team has ran the ball. This is in part because Running Back Doug Martin has been injured since week two, and the replacements haven’t been nearly as effective. Head Coach Dirk Koetter has mentioned how this needs to change.
The defense also needs to help Winston, as they keep allowing big plays that lead to points. Not all of this is because of he defense, however, as the turnovers by the offense has gassed the defense and left them tired heading into crunch time. Nonetheless, the defense can’t put the offense in deep holes, as it may be too much to recover from.
Overall, Winston can’t do it alone. It’s too much for a second year player to have to consistently dig his team out of a hole game in and game out. Help from the supporting cast needs to arise from.
