Self help tips

Dealing with depression can be a tiresome and seemingly endless ordeal, filled with up and down days. Experiences may differ which is a completely valid notion.

Some people may feel like they’re dragging the weight of another person behind them wherever they go, a manifestation of a whole other human being that breathes, talks and feels. If you feed its need for attention, it becomes stronger but if you busy yourself, it slips away for a bit. Accept that it isn’t controllable completely and focus on doing ones best to be healthy.

A pattern tends to evolve, one involving the repetition of actions that will not improve your condition. Sometimes the best one can do is focus on ways to improve mood healthily and independently.

Shower

Showering is a handy go to that refreshes and renews, even if only for a few minutes. Wash away the grit and grime of the day, the sullen thoughts and have a fresh start. A quick ten minute should be enough time (to do what). Afterwards put on some lazy clothes on or get ready for the rest of the day.

Appealing to your sense of smell

Having pleasant scents around can have a positive impact on mood. Lavender roll on perfumes are a smart buy, a quick dab on the go is a simple way to freshen up. The neck, by the nose and wrists are plausible spots since the scent can be easily smelt from there. Soft scents like lavender, coconut or chamomile should do the trick.

Dwelling outdoors

When feeling ungrounded or antsy, nature is always a good answer. Take a walk, slide a hand across the trees and plants or stand barefoot in the grass. Being indoors can cause many people to feel trapped but soaking up the sun or moonlight just might bring relief.

Plan the day

Often times keeping busy and creating a full layout of the day will create a healthier mindset. Being prepared and having plans deters toxic stagnancy and sadness. Feeling productive is very important and plays a major role in feeling good. Having activities to look forward to throughout the day helps a lot.

Make something

Express your sadness through creation. Make a playlist, draw a rose or cook some food. Why not feel sad but creative? It shows something good can come from you even when you think that’s not possible. That your sadness can be channeled into greater things.

Don’t push away your depression, let the sadness wash over but never allow it to overstay its welcome.
