Champions League continues

After another round of Champion’s League soccer being played on Nov. 22 and 23, even more teams have been qualified as advancing to the knockout rounds.

In Group A, both advancing teams had been decided as of last round, but the winner of the group is undecided as well as the loser. Paris SG played Arsenal in a 2-2 draw, keeping the points that both teams have even, at 11. FC Basel tied Ludogorets again, getting both of them to two points, with a score of 0-0. With the final week approaching soon, the battle for advancing to the Europa League, between the bottom two teams, and the battle for advancing as the group leader, between PSG and Arsenal, is all starting.

In Group B, Benfica tied Besiktas 3-3. Also, Napoli tied FC Dynamo Kyiv 0-0. This leaves this group in the same situation as last week, with no teams being guaranteed to advance, but with Dynamo being eliminated from the group, as they are 5 points below the third place team. The hope of advancing further in this tournament will make this upcoming round be very eventful within this group.

In Group C, FC Barcelona beat Celtic 2-0 and Manchester City tied Borussia M’gladbach 1-1. At this point, FC Barcelona has been guaranteed a spot at the top of their group, and Celtic has little to no chance of escaping, as they would need a win, but also by a margin of around 8 goals, which would be very difficult for a small team like them. The battle between second place is between Manchester and Borussia, and if Manchester is able to secure one point, through a tie, in their next game, they are guaranteed to advance, with Borussia M’gladbach going to the Europa League.

In Group D, Atletico Madrid won yet again by a score of 2-0, keeping their record with no draws or losses, and only wins. Rostov, a rather unknown and small team, managed to beat Bayern Munich 3-2, a huge upset. Although Rostov beat them, Bayern Munich is guaranteed to advance in second place, and Atletico Madrid topped the group.

Of these four groups, five out of the eight teams who will advance have been decided, which are: Paris SG of France, Arsenal FC of England, FC Barcelona of Spain, Atletico Madrid of Spain, and Bayern Munich of Germany. The other three teams most likely to advance would be Manchester City of England, Besiktas of Turkey, and Benfica of Portugal, but that is just a prediction.
