Winston-Evans duo best in the league
This season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a lethal connection in Quarterback Jameis Winston and Wide Receiver Mike Evans, with Evans catching 10 of Winston’s 22 touchdowns. For context, Evans is tied in the league for touchdown receptions with Steelers Wide Receiver Antonio Brown. This statistic has, in my opinion, justified the notion that the Winston-Evans duo is the best in the NFL.
With fellow Wide Receiver Vincent Jackson having last played in the Monday Night Football Buc’s victory against the Carolina Panthers, Evans has caught six of Winston’s touchdowns, scoring twice in games against the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, and last week against the Seattle Seahawks. Also, Evans has 571 receiving yards. The person behind Evans’s in that time span is Tight End Cameron Brate with 245 yards and three touchdowns.
League wide, Atlanta Falcon’s Wide Receiver Julio Jones has 623 yards and two touchdowns in week six and onwards. Yes, Evans has 52 more yards, but Evans has four more touchdowns than Jones. Scoring more points for your team is more important in my mind, however, as it leads to a better chance of winning.
Some side notes to consider is the amount of time missed due to injury between both Winston and Evans. Winston has not missed a game in his career, playing in 27 straight while Evans has only missed two games since coming into the league in 2014. Duos such Roethlisberger-Brown, Ryan-Jones, Manning-Beckham Jr., and Dalton-Green have had one side of the duo missed some time significant time.
Also, Winston and Evans are some of the youngest at their respective positions. Winston is 22 years of age and Evans is 23 years old. With both players being so young, their dominance will impact the league for a long time.
