‘Milk and Honey’ engages readers with four life lessons

When you walk into Barnes and Noble and choose a book, most people gravitate toward the award winning books or the ‘New York Times Bestselling’ table. However, Milk and Honey, a book of poetry about survival and relationships, written by Rupi Kaur is a new popular pick that has begun among high school students.

The reason for this increasing popularity in a collection of poetry is that every page is a different poem and most people can relate well to the authors words which hold many life lessons about surviving difficult relationships and abuses.

Split into four parts, the author starts the book off talking about ‘The Hurting, the Loving, the Breaking, and the Healing.’ Students have picked up several life lessons from the pages of the book.

1.The Power of Women

“It was crazy you know? It was life changing. Just everything about it. It changed my perspective on how powerful women are,” senior, Sasha Bensonoff, said.

2. You can choose to be happy

“You can choose to be happy and your happiness should not revolve around other peoples’ actions,” senior, Riley Jones, said.

3.Empowerment

“It makes me feel empowered and normal because I’m afraid that I am the only one feeling that way so it’s comforting to know more people feel that way,” senior, Morgan Krause, said.

4.Facing Obstacles

“This is a really awesome book that shows how [some] women have overcome obstacles,” senior, Sam Toledo, said.
