’13 Reasons Why’ conveys important message to audience

Following Netflix’s newest trend of creating original series, the streaming giant has recently added the new show “Thirteen Reasons Why” to its TV series collection.

This highly anticipated show impresses audiences with both its plot line and deeper messages found throughout the series.

Based on the bestselling book, “Thirteen Reasons Why” follows the main character Clay Jensen as he navigates his way through the reasons his friend killed herself. The show closely resembles the book but isn’t an exact replica. For example, in the book Clay binges on the tapes in one night, but in the show, he takes over a week to finish them. The difference in the two mediums is fitting for the time they were created, since they were made almost a decade apart.

The show is also filled with deep messages for audiences, a few of the topics include suicide, bullying and rape. These themes are seen throughout the series, and the audiences get to follow the characters as they are affected by each of them. The show helps to point out that these things do happen in reality, and there are things we as a society can do to prevent them. Thirteen Reasons Why also has an amazing plot line that keeps viewers wanting to hit the next episode button. Each episode focuses on a tape about what a certain person contributed to Hannah Baker’s death. Some episodes even foreshadow the severity of what’s to come, which creates suspense and leaves audiences wanting to find out what is going to happen next.

Overall this show should be one that everyone watches, especially those in high school, so they are educated on these issues important issues that are found today in society.

It’s not just a show about kids in high school, but instead a show that not only educates, but entertains, draws emotion, and leaves audiences feeling something. Netflix hit the mark with this original series, and hopefully another season comes out soon.
