Scooping Chinese food on to her plate, Science teacher Lindsey Tait takes part in the Gold Card lunch.

A lunch for all students who received gold cards was held at the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. This lunch was hosted by the Executive Board to create another incentive for students to strive for a gold card. The lunch was held on Sept 1.

Gold cards are provided to students for maintaining an A average in all their classes along with a small number of absences.

Gold cards are the most beneficial of all the incentive cards, as they allow a student to drop up to three tests in different classes. A card cannot be used more than once in the same class. Gold cards are only eligible to drop tests in one quarter of the year.

Many students believe that these lunches, several of which are held every year, give them another reason to strive for the good grades and attendance required for a gold card.

“It makes me work harder to get the card,” sophomore Matthew Brkljacic said. “Plus, the food is good”.

Other students noted how the lunch felt very rewarding after working hard to receive a gold card.

“It really emphasizes that excelling in your classes means you get rewarded,” senior Desu Imudia said. “It makes me feel appreciative of my hard work,”.

“I enjoyed it because it rewards people for good grades,” junior Lexi Whitley said.

Imudia also noted how the ability to enjoy this experience with other students makes the whole event more pleasurable.

“You get to eat good food with good people,” Imudia said.

“It’s a nice extra light at the end of the tunnel,” sophomore Chloe Valdes said.

A gold card lunch is held for three of the four quarters in the year; those who receive a gold card in the fourth quarter of a year will be admitted to a lunch in the first quarter of the next year.
The next gold card lunch will be in November.
