Book club members and sponsor Matt Penn, listen as each student shares their favorite Summer read.

The first meeting for the school book club comes with all the latest information on summer reading and new books in the school library. It was on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and took place in the school library during all lunches.

The club sat in a circle and went around explaining details of their book and the overall concept and plot of their read.

“We were talking about what we read over the summer and good books to read,” sophomore Katherine Edgar said. “A few of my friends were joining, I like reading and I thought it would help me become a better reader.”

Librarian Matt Penn finds out what new books are capturing student readers and searches for ways to obtain them in the school library.

“I really enjoy finding out what students like about certain books,” Penn said. “I gain knowledge on what new books interest our students.”

The book club was made up of about 15 students who all share a similar passion for reading.

“I think it’s really cool that there are people who enjoy reading just as much as I do,” sophomore Brooke Johnson said

Snacks and beverages are provided by Penn while the students listen to what their fellow classmates have to say about their recent findings in their local libraries.

“It’s a wonderful experience to be able to share a passion with other people,” sophomore Audrey Taylor said.

There will be more meetings to come in the same location. The club and Penn continue to urge more students to come in, collaborate and enjoy.
