The Songkick and Bandcamp apps give alerts for upcoming concerts. They sync with the music library’s artists on a phone and tells the user if a band is having a nearby show.

As an avid concert-goer, Songkick and Bandcamp have become my best friends. The two apps give updates on concerts coming up in your area. It syncs with your music library’s artists and tells you if a band has a show near you. After reading this, downloading those applications will not be necessary.

Several mainly-alternative bands have included Florida locations on their tours and should be capitalized on since many bands don’t come to our home because it is out of the way logistically and geographically. Some of these artists are not only playing in Tampa, but Orlando as well.

Some smaller bands will be performing at bars to a smaller crowd which will make the tickets at least $10. All the shows on this list, however, are guaranteed to be under $40.

In Tampa, the biggest venues listed in descending order are unsurprisingly Amalie Arena, the Ritz and the Crowbar. The only venue in St. Petersburg is the Mahaffey Theater.

The largest venues in Orlando include the CFE Arena, Hard Rock Live, the Beacham and the Social. The Abbey, Wills Pub and the Soundbar are tied for being the smallest venues and will be the cheapest, since they are at bars; the tickets will be around $15.

Some notable features coming to Tampa and Orlando are David Byrne, Hinds, Death Cab for Cutie and Elton John. The Talking Head’s star David Byrne will be putting on an unforgettable show while playing his new album “American Utopia.”

The band that I am most looking forward to seeing is the Spanish-native band Hinds, who are coming to Florida for the first time. Death Cab for Cutie is also not a band to miss when they are celebrating their ninth album at the Hard Rock Live.

Finally, Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour is just that, his final tour, and is worth the cost. These are the bands to look out for in the upcoming months:

Sept. 17: Borns with Twin Shadow at the Beacham

Sept. 27: The Frights at the Crowbar
