‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ sparks the newest Netflix movie craze
“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a romantic comedy based off the best-selling novels by Jenny Han that was recently released on Netflix.
It follows the life of Lara Jean, a girl whose world gets shaken up when the love letters that she had written to the boys she’s had crushes on throughout her life are sent to each of them.
To try and take the focus off of the letters, she agrees to be in a fake relationship with high-school jock and overall golden boy Peter Kavinsky.
The plot of the movie surrounds their “relationship,” the drama it stirs up, and all of the effects that high school and life in general have on Lara Jean.
Although at first it might seem like just another cheesy movie, director Susan Johnson does a great job at portraying what the awkward life of a teenager is and the struggle many people feel to fit in.
Some parts of the story can be unrealistic, and the social hierarchy of the school seems a bit overexaggerated, but in other aspects it can reflect the lives of the viewer rather accurately.
Lara Jean is a relatable character. Rather than seeming flawless and always knowing what to say at the right time — as people in romantic comedies tend to do — she is just a normal teenager who is trying her best to fit in with her peers but stumbling here and there.
The film pulls readers in with a promise of romance, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. It has hit a chord with younger viewers and has a heartful yet funny storyline.
“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a movie that would be enjoyed by anyone who likes to laugh and be moved all at once, and by the end of the film, viewers will be ready to write some love letters of their own.
