Student club hosts event to talk to Christian athletes

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes held their second ever Fields of Faith event at Dads Stadium after school on Oct. 3.

The event had lots of activities and games for those who attended, and had a band playing as well. FCA worked alongside with youth directors Bryce Lynn and Kathy Conner from First Presbyterian Church and the FCA director, Steve Young.

“I want to make a culture where anyone that is a nonbeliever or a believer to come into a place where they belong,” event coordinator senior Alexis Seymour said. “I want to see the next generation move from where they are to where God wants them to be.”

Before the event, students participated in different games like corn hole and archery. Some of the volunteers gave out information on their church and Jeremiah’s Italian Ice samples.

“I hope that the kids feel included,” junior Mary Grace Kelly said. I know that some of them struggle with friendships and I hope that this is a unifying cause.

After singing along to the band FUSE, students heard other club members share their stories involving religion, school and sports.

“This event is a cool chance to engage with the people around you while listing to an incredible band and some incredible messages,” sophomore Sarah Hill said.

To conclude the event, retired NFL player Garrett Gilkey shared his experience of continuing his faith throughout college and his career. He also shared what it was like for him to continue his education and change career paths after an injury.

“I hope other students would learn to seek God through whatever form it may be, whether it might be going to church, getting involved with first priority or FCA or just sharing the word of God with a student or a classmate,” senior Christian Germano said.

At the event, students met FCA members from their school and other middle and high schools in the area. FCA plans to continue the tradition of Fields of Faith so new students can hear the message as well.

Our goal is to get people who don’t know Jesus to know Jesus and finding fellowship with other students who think like they do and who are loving, kind and want to live through God and share the message,” FCA sponsor Jeffrey Keene said.
