Vigil sheds light on growing community support

Supporters hold moment of silence for Jackie Faircloth on the front lawn Dec. 4. Faircloth was a victim of a hit and run in Tallahassee Nov. 29.

In the wake of the tragic hit and run on Nov.29,  that left Plant high student Jackie Faircloth in a medically induced coma family, friends and strangers have united in support for her.

Thursday, Dec.4, members of the South Tampa community gathered on the front lawn of plant high school for a candlelight vigil.

Cathy Connor, the Faircloth’s minister shared updates on Jackie’s recovery. Jackie was able to eat food given through a tube and needed a slightly smaller dosage of medicine.

“God doesn’t stop working so we shouldn’t stop praying,” Cathy Connor, Faircloth’s minister, said.

Group of supporters listened on as Grace Roman, a close family friend, covered  “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley, bringing forth tears throughout the crowd.Soon after Roman sang close friends of Jackie spoke.

“Don’t stop praying. When she see’s how much love and support that you guys have shown her, she will be so happy,” Maddy Crawford, close friend of Jackie, said.

Those interested in supporting the cause can contact Joanna Forsyth and Crawford who are selling “Pray for Jackie” bracelets for $1, with all proceeds going back to the Faircloth’s.

“When I brought up that I would be selling bracelets, a girl told me that she wanted to help somehow,” Crawford said. “She had already made 30,  paid for them with her own money and was selling them at the skatepark. She just wanted to know where she could send the money.”

Support for Jackie and her family has spread beyond South Tampa and across the state. Bracelets are also being sold in Gainesville and Tallahassee. Jackie’s uncle created “Pray for Jackie” yard signs and and along with the help of volunteers were handed out as the crowd dispersed.

Jackie Faircloth has managed to bring the senior class, the South Tampa community and people across the state are striving together toward one goal: for Jackie’s speedy recovery and return home.
