Seniors, Libby Maddux and Abby Pointer hug before one of their last meets on the team. Both Pointer and Maddux have been friends since starting swim and this is their last year together before graduating.

The Plant High School Swim Team had their Senior Night meet on Oct. 12th against Newsome. The team concluded its regular season meets and prepares for districts on the 25th in Clearwater.

The team sports swimmers from each grade and has a large number of seniors on the team this year. Many of these students are preparing for their next step in life, whether that may be college or some other path.

One of these seniors is Abby Pointer, who has been on the team for all four years of high school.

“My favorite part of Plant is definitely the team,” Pointer said. “The people on the team and the coaches are so much fun because everyone is so wonderful. Everyone is always hyping everyone up and having fun with the coaches and the team.”

“My favorite time with the team is definitely the Moe’s dinners,” Pointer said.

The team is coached by Mrs. Roy and Ms. Houston, both teachers at Plant. This is Roy’s second year as head coach and Ms. Houston second as assistant coach. Everyone on the team, not just the seniors, has commented on how much they love the coaches and how great they are at what they do.

“My favorite part of Plant swim is my teammates and the coaches,” Libby Maddux, a fellow senior on the swim team, said.

“I have been swimming with Plant since my sophomore year, but I grew up swimming on a small Palma Ceia team since I was little,” Maddux said. “The thing I am going to miss the most about Plant swim is our tradition of going to Moe’s after every swim meet as a team. I hope to swim for a club in college but not at the varsity level.”

The team will take on Districts next and will head on the road for States in November. The Plant Swim Seniors have expressed how much they will miss the team and the environment, but how they have loved and cherished their time on the team. They will head onto the next part of their life, looking back on their memories of the team with a smile.
