On February 24, 2024, the Screen Actors Guild Awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles California. The SAG Awards were founded in 1995 to honor outstanding performances in film and television series, presenting a total of 13 awards to actors and films from the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.
This year was the SAG Awards 30th year airing, honoring films such as Oppenheimer and The Last of Us and series like The Bear and The Crown. However, the awards were not the only highlight of the night. The first iconic moment of the event unfolded when “The Devil Wears Prada” actors Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Anne Hathaway graced the stage to announce the award for best male actor in a comedy series. The trio not only came out dressed to impress, but they quoted lines from the iconic “Devil Wears Prada” film, all three truly embodying Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly.
Another very memorable moment came with Pedro Pascal’s acceptance speech for best male in a drama series. Pascal walked onstage and began his speech with “This is wrong for a number of reasons” after thanking a plethora of different people, his speech ended with him saying “I’m going to have a panic attack and I’m going to leave”. This speech was not only heavily enjoyed by audience members but by social media as well, as it went viral on platforms like TikTok soon after the events of the night ended.
The Devil Wears Prada reunion wasn’t the only reunion of the night. The cast of the hit television series “Modern Family” took the stage together to reminisce about their glory days on screen together. “Lord of The Rings” actors Elijah Wood and Sean Astin also made an appearance to announce the winner for best female actor in a supporting role and to crack jokes about their series win from 20 years ago.
Overall, the SAG Awards were a night to remember, giving awards to hardworking actors and creating some very memorable social media worthy moments.
