On March 27, the Plant Varsity Baseball team fought the Robinson Knights and prevailed in a 11-0 game. The team’s overall record is 11-3 for the season and 2-0 for the district, making them the second-highest rank in Hillsborough.
“I thought that we played a pretty good game,” first baseman, Danny Cerelli (12), said. “Hill pitched well, and we need to keep stacking these wins going forward.”
The game ended early due to “Mercy Rule,” which says that when a team is up 10 or more, the game ends early after the fifth inning. Plant now holds a four-year win over Robinson and many of the players plan to continue this streak.
“We played well as a team,” short-stop, Cash Strayer (11), said. “Staying focused and always having fun energy in the game makes it a great game. I personally felt that I had a good game, quality at bats.”
The team had 11 runs, quite high for baseball, let alone a high school game. Jackson Cucchi (11), right-outfielder, had his opinion why.
“They definitely aren’t the same team we played last year,” Cucchi said. “I personally thought it was one of our easier games this year, but we could have played better.”
Garrett Hill (12) pitched all six innings for the Panthers. His teammates have their say on his performance throughout the game.
“Garrett threw a really good game and definitely was a big part of the win,” Strayer said. Cerelli added on saying that the pitching helped make the game “a win.”
