Kung Fu Tea gives bubble tea a sweet kick

As a self pronounced foodie, I absolutely love all food from Eastern Asia, and when it comes to drinks, I am a fanatic. Many people know about Green Island Tea Bar, located down the street from school, but recently I have discovered the Seminole Heights gem that is Kung Fu Tea.

Kung Fu Tea is a bubble tea and Taiwanese cafe located down the street from University of South Florida on Fowler Ave. It has established itself in an old fast food joint, complete with a drive-through and counter service.

Tones inside of Kung Fu Tea are dim and coffee-colored, with a large, softly lit brand name on the counter-side wall. The dining area has soft, pleather seating, lounge chairs and a very homey feel. Overall, the interior is very aesthetically pleasing.

Bubble tea itself is a chilled tea served with milk and other sweet additives, topped with an element called “bubble”: a soft, chewy ball made of tapioca root.

Though KFT serves food, the main attraction is their teas. They have various types of milk tea, from Oreo to coffee, slushes, green teasa and “wow milk” teas, which are a blend of cold milk and green tea. The cafe also has 3 main toppings to add to your tea: mung and red bean, which are sweet, chilled beans, and bubble.

I ordered a medium classic bubble milk tea, and my counterpart a medium taro milk tea, add bubble. I had an opportunity to try both, and I was absolutely dumbfounded by how wonderful they were.

The tea by itself was smooth, tasty and absolutely refreshing. It wasn’t too sweet, and it had a distinct flavor as opposed to an overwhelming taste of corn syrup. The bubble may, however, was the star of the show.

I have had bubble from multiple establishments, and none were like this. It had the perfect consistency, and they soaked the orbs in honey before depositing them, giving them an extra soft sweetness.

I would absolutely recommend going out of the way to taste these wonderful drinks. This may very well outshine Green Island in every aspect. Kung Fu Tea has almost instantly roped me in as a regular patron.
