Senior nights for sports are often bittersweet, but for Plant’s hockey team, it was also a chance to celebrate success. In their final game of the season, Plant beat Durant High School 8-2. With five seniors on the team, this night was important for Plant’s record. Before the game, the seniors were honored with a brief ceremony on the ice. Each player was announced to skate over to their family for a photo, marking years of hard work and dedication to Plant.
As the game began, the team did not hesitate to take charge of the opponents. The offense got off to a strong start, exerting maximum pressure on the opponents’ defense and creating more opportunities in the first period. By the end of the first period, the team had built momentum that carried them through the rest of the game.
In the defense, the players were disciplined and focused. The goalie, William Montgomery (11), played a crucial role in controlling the opponents from scoring. This is because he made several saves in the game, allowing Plant to stay strong and focused.
As the third period ended, victory was clear, but the team’s energy never wavered. The bench kept cheering, and the game stayed fast-paced. When the clock hit zero, Plant’s 8-2 win closed the season. After shaking hands with Durant, the team celebrated both the win and the end of their shared journey.
The night represented more than just the seniors’ achievements. It symbolized years of dedication: weekly practices and late games that defined the team’s culture. The seniors’ leadership and experience left a lasting impact on underclassmen, who will build on this foundation.
“I felt good going into the game; it started kind of slow, but as the game went on, it got better,” Parker Pizzo (12). “Senior night for me was fun, but it was also like, ‘ Wow, this is it; this is my last game in a Plant jersey.’”
Pizzo overcame a slow start by staying confident and improving as the game progressed. His words captured the bittersweet emotion of senior night: the joy of one last game and the sadness of leaving Plant hockey. At the final buzzer, Pizzo and the seniors left the ice proudly, ending on a high note.
Senior leadership was also prominently displayed during the game, whether through communication on the ice, support from the bench, or hard work to set the tone. The seniors played a big role in keeping the team motivated from start to finish. As the season comes to a close, the seniors’ impact will be felt long after the third period ends.
