The Tampa Bay Lightning have once again proven they are one of the National Hockey League’s top teams during the 2025–26 season. With a strong record and several standout performances from key players, the Lightning have remained competitive in the Atlantic Division and continue to push toward yet another playoff appearance.
However, as of early March, Tampa Bay holds a 39-18-4 record and sits near the top of the Atlantic Division standings with 82 points. The team’s consistent performance has kept them among the best teams in the Eastern Conference as the regular season moves into its final stretch.
One of the biggest reasons for Tampa Bay’s success this season has been its offensive production. Forward Nikita Kucherov has been one of the most dominant players in the league. Through roughly 57 games, Kucherov has recorded more than 100 points, including over 30 goals and nearly 70 assists. His ability to create scoring opportunities has made him a centerpiece of the Lightning offense and a constant threat for opposing defenses. (Elite Prospects.com)
Kucherov’s performance was highlighted recently in a five-two win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, when he recorded four assists and reached the 100-point mark for the season. Teammates Jake Guentzel and Brandon Hagel also contributed with a goal and an assist each in that victory, helping Tampa Bay snap a four-game losing streak.
Guentzel and Hagel have been key contributors throughout the season as well. Guentzel has scored more than 25 goals and added dozens of assists, while Hagel has continued to be a reliable scorer and playmaker. Their offensive support has allowed Tampa Bay to maintain one of the more balanced attacks in the league.
Defense has also played an important role in Lightning’s strong season. Veteran defenseman Victor Hedman continues to anchor the blue line while serving as team captain. Younger players have stepped up as well. Defenseman J.J. Moser has emerged as an important part of the defensive unit, logging heavy minutes and providing steady play in his own zone.
Another key piece of Tampa Bay’s success is goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Known as one of the NHL’s top goalies, Vasilevskiy has delivered several strong performances on the net. In the recent win over Toronto, he stopped 27 shots and helped secure the victory for the Lightning.
The season has not been completely smooth, however. Like many teams, the Lightning have dealt with injuries to several players. Forward Nick Paul, for example, has missed time due to an undisclosed injury, while other depth players have also spent time on injured reserves. Milestones have also marked the Lightning’s season. Earlier in the year, Kucherov reached the 1,000-point milestone in his NHL career, while Hedman reached 800 career points. These achievements highlight the experience and leadership that veteran players bring to the team. (Covers.com)
As the regular season moves toward the playoffs, the Lightning appears well positioned to make another postseason run. With high-powered scoring, solid defense, and reliable goaltending, Tampa Bay remains one of the most dangerous teams in the NHL.
If the Lightning can maintain their current level of play and stay healthy, fans in Tampa could once again see their team competing deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
