Natalie Grant, senior, spends the rainy day off reading.

1) Netflix! A rainy day is the perfect time to sit back and relax with a bowl of popcorn. Catch up on your favorite TV shows or pick a movie to enjoy.

2) Read a Good Book! We all have that one book we want to read but haven’t found a chance to. Now is your opportunity. Grab that book and start reading.

3) Cards and Board Games! Put away the technology for a while and go old school with some classic board and card games. Spend some quality time with your family laughing around your favorite childhood games. You’ll thank me later!

4) Cook! With the endless about of time you have in your house don’t just resort to eating boxed mac ‘n cheese. Take it one step further to gourmet status and find an easy recipe with ingredients you already have. If you really want the macaroni, then try to find a recipe to make it from scratch. The ingredients are so simple that you will most likely already have them laying around. All Recipe’s macaroni only contains elbow macaroni, butter, all purpose flour, milk, shredded cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper. And if you want to step it up another notch, Food network’s recipe only contains elbow macaroni, milk, butter, onion, garlic, fresh thyme, dry mustard, all purpose flour, shredded cheddar cheese, grated parmesan, bay leaf, and salt and pepper. So go for it! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/238691/simple-macaroni-and-cheese/ http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/macaroni-and-cheese-recipe.html

5) Write! For the writers out there, or those wanting to try something new, get on the computer and start typing. Whether it is a personal story, school paper, or college applications, you will end the day feeling like you accomplished something.

6) Online Class! If you have an online class then get on it. Like many others, there are most likely a few assignments that could be turned in.

7) Clean! Take this extra time off to reorganize your room. It is probably well needed.

8) Catch up with Long Distance Friends! Keep in contact with your summer friends you met at camp, or old childhood friends. Give your friends a call. By catching up, you will not only maintain the relationship, but help it grow.

9) Relax and Dedicate the Day to Yourself! Make some tea, or coffee, and just relax. Separate yourself from all the stress in your life and let yourself readjust. Maybe even try taking a long bath or just listen to music.

10) Sleep! Let’s be real, we could all use some more sleep. According to the National Children’s Hospital, ranked among the best Children’s Hospitals by US News, adolescents between ages 13 and 18 need between 9 and 9 ½ hours of sleep—a dramatically different number compared to 6.9 hours of sleep that the Stanford medical center proclaims as what a teenager is actually getting.
