Kesha takes Tampa

Kesha’s concert at The Ritz in central Ybor was an event filled with emotion and hope. Kesha after not touring for a couple of years has reentered the limelight with her tour called “F**k the world”.

The venue has a dark, vampire-esque aesthetic. The inside has a tall ceiling, patterned floor tiles and a red interior. There’s a second story viewing balcony for 21 and up, with a large space below in front of the main stage for general admission.

Kesha played old songs like “Tik tok”, “timber” and “die young” along with recent covers of songs.  The songs each have a indie feel to them, remastered to sound more acoustic and rock band like rather than the pop versions played on the radio.

She speaks about the rules for her performance , that she is forbidden by her label to play any of her new music. Disappointment and anger is evident on her face as she announces this, all targeted at her recent lawsuit against label owner, Dr. Luke.

After years of dealing with an eating disorder as well as emotion and sexual trauma, Kesha has spoken out against Dr.Luke. Claiming he has caused her years of psychological damage from body shaming, rape and abuse.

During the concert Kesha takes breaks in between songs to share her struggle and how she continues fighting for control over her life despite the attempts being made to shut her down. The crowd was lively and supportive in response, eliciting the chant “Free Kesha”. A feel good energy coursed through the crowd as everyone danced to her raspy voice.

Next time this singer comes around, make sure you make an effort to go see her show. You wont want to miss the excitement and pleasure of a Kesha concert, especially the loads of glitter and confetti.
